I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book. It wasn’t a fantasy with super in-depth world-building or a long, epic adventure; it was a simple world with a unique magic system, perfect for when you just need an easy escape to relax into. I loved that it was an ACTUAL slow-burn romance. The way the past and present timelines were done built the connection and tension between them perfectly. A surprise for me was how creeped out I was by the casket children. I would have loved to dive more into that whole mystery, which I’m assuming comes later in the series. I do hate that this one ended right when all the action really started going down… but I guess that’s how they get ya!
