Gussie Fink-Nottle - a shy man, obsessively devoted to the study and care of newts - has done the unthinkable and fallen in love. With Madeline Bassett, that soppiest of specimens, who thinks that stars are God's daisy chain, and that bunny-rabbits are gnomes attendant upon the fairy queen. Hopelessly incapable of expressing his feelings, Gussie enlists Jeeves to advise him how to woo Madeline. Then Bertie, fed up with being constantly overlooked in favour of his valet, puts his foot down and insists upon helping out his chum himself.
