The media had dubbed him the Bare Foot Killer after the bodies of five mutilated women – all shoeless - had been discovered in Youngstown, a rustbelt city on the Mahoning River in Northeastern Ohio. But it wasn’t the women that bothered Police Detective Roman Katz; it was the last victim, an eight-year-old girl that was the final blow to his psyche. Katz broke and tumbled into a bottle. When he finally crawled out he was in a different place and a different time. Now five years later Katz has migrated to Boca Raton in South Florida and pays the rent doing background checks and catching wayward spouses in compromising positions. His fortunes appear to be on the rise when he takes on a unique missing-persons case for a friend. What he doesn’t know is his secret involvement with the Youngstown case and the fact the Bare Foot Killer has followed him south and is about to begin his reign of blood and horror all over again - but with Katz as the main audience member. Not wanting to get involved, Katz is recruited by the Palm Beach County Sherriff and soon finds himself in the center of the whole mess when the Bare Foot Killer’s first two new victims are discovered. Now with the help of a beautiful young heiress, an FBI profiler, and an eccentric ex-hippie from the Sixties, Katz races to solve the two mysteries before more bodies turn up or the missing-person vanishes for good.
