View All3.5Knew absolutely nothing about this before I bought it so I thought I would read it blind. The start of this book was hard to get into to be honest. I didn't click with Tait right away, I found her to be quite closed off and hard to relate to at first. I did warm up to her eventually. I really didn't like Henry and her dad's assumption that she was there for nefarious reasons at first. That really annoyed me.Now something that I haven't experienced before is a POV switch for one sentence and it really confused me that I had to go back to see if I missed a POV change that actually got tabbed in my book as something that made me mad as I really didn't like the confusion it gave me.Another thing was the two flashbacks that in my opinion were absolutely unnecessary.I was a little disappointed in Tait not seeing Henry's reason for being at the ranch. She thought he was there out of obligation and she didn't see that when his family basically gave up on him they gave him one and to think he only wanted her because she was a part of that family was really insulting, not only to Henry but herself too. The twist with the paternity of Ana was something I wasn't expecting and it definitely was a twist that had me thinking that their mom was a real hypocrite. Especially as she kept their dad away, even if he could have tried harder, she still put states and obstacles in the way. I don't understand how even if their mom wanted to punish the dad why would his brother go along with it?? That was diabolical to me. I know they did it to him first but they weren't married or had a kid. So what Duane did was much worse. Then there is the reveal of who Tait's boss is.... Now that was a fantastic way to end a book. I wasn't overly emotional with the letter from the mom because I think she could have done that sooner and prevented her daughter from growing up with such resentment for something she had a major part to play in. I think she got to have the good times and her ex husband got all the blame and he wasn't the only one at fault and that annoyed me so I wasn't as invested in that letter because of that.I did enjoy this for the most part though.Would recommend.
