SAMANTHA'S NIGHT FLIGHT

Old Hooty, a large gray-brown, horned-rim owl, had been terrorizing and eating all the smaller inhabitants of 'Pete's Crossing', a community near Mt. Hood in Washington State, where Samantha, a flying squirrel, and her family lived. Even Claus, an old Saint Bernard, who lived behind the "PETE'S CROSSING GAS" station and hated Old Hooty for catching and eating the chickens he guarded, could not stop him.
Summer turned to winter as the small animal population dwindled because of Old Hooty. Samantha's own family disappeared until she, alone, was left. Then on Christmas Eve Old Hooty finally saw Samantha sailing by on her quest for food and began chasing her.
