View AllSaving 6 takes place before Binding 13, and it’s an incredible dive into Joey and Aoife’s story. First off… I loooooove their banter. Their first meeting was sharp, funny, and full of personality, perfectly setting up their chaotic, intense relationship.
Joey… you think you know him from the first two books, but here you see just how much he endured. Growing up in an abusive household, protecting his siblings, and witnessing his father’s violence left deep scars. He turns to drugs to quiet the demons he carries. His saving grace? Aoife.
Aoife is equally remarkable. She has her own insecurities from her parents’ fractured relationship and stays in a relationship for years knowing she won’t give all of herself — and that’s okay for her at the time. She’s resilient, patient, and fiercely determined, the kind of person who fights for the people she loves in ways no one else does.
When Joey and Aoife finally stop their dance, it’s anything but easy. Their relationship is messy, intense, and beautiful. Aoife is Joey’s light, but he struggles to accept what she offers.
This book doesn’t hold back in showing trauma — from child abuse to emotional scars — and the messy, painful reality of coping. Joey is still wrestling with his demons, and Aoife supports him, showing care and patience. By the end, Joey is left facing the impact of his trauma, not just on himself, but on the one person he truly loves. It’s heartbreaking, intense, and deeply affecting.
Overall, Saving 6 is an unforgettable, emotionally charged story that gives full weight to Joey and Aoife’s struggles, love, and resilience.
