At its essence, the novel delves into the resilience of love amidst emotional burdens such as caregiving, long-distance relationships, and the lingering shadows of past traumas. Jimenez skillfully captures the delicate nuances of falling in love while navigating the weight of responsibility, presenting two fully developed characters whose journey feels both authentic and deeply resonant. The prose is rich with emotional depth, offering moments that are as gut-wrenching as they are filled with hope, creating a tapestry of feelings that linger long after the final page is turned.“I’d like to look back on my life and remember every single thing. But if I don’t, I hope I remember that it was a love story and that love story was about you.”One of the novel's most commendable aspects is its sensitive exploration of difficult themes, including dementia, grief, and familial obligations, all approached with remarkable compassion and nuance. Samantha's battle with her mother's illness and Xavier's quest to overcome his painful history are depicted with a level of empathy that enriches their romantic connection. The pacing of the narrative is gentle yet engaging, allowing readers ample opportunity to forge a bond with the characters and genuinely invest in their pursuit of happiness. Jimenez eschews melodrama, opting instead to build tension through relatable, real-life dilemmas, which imbue the story with a sense of grounded realism and emotional weight.“Because if you were my wife you would be my world. Everything starts with you and ends with you. Anything else is just the stuff that happens in the middle.”What distinguishes this novel is its profound emotional sincerity. Rather than presenting a mere escapist romance, Say You'll Remember Me emerges as a love story that resonates with those grappling with the complexities of everyday life. It emphasizes the importance of choosing love not only in moments of ease but especially during times of hardship. With beautifully crafted prose, emotionally astute characters, and a narrative that lingers in the mind long after reading, this novel serves as a poignant reminder that the most enduring love stories often blossom amidst life's most challenging circumstances.“I know. I’ve always loved you,” he said simply. “I think I couldn’t forget you because I remember you from a different lifetime. And I loved you then too.”────୨ৎ────⤷ Thank you for reaching to this point here and I'm really glad and thankful for you, love you ⟡.
I loved how Abby Jimenez handled these topics and subjects because as a person who went through a lot of what is discussed in this book with my grandparents, I enjoyed how it was handled but also the romance between Samantha & Xavier was so cute.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“There is nothing more beautiful than being a witness to someone’s life. To know them inside and out and be with them through everything, share the same memories. Memories are everything…”Another heartwarming tale of love, family, and memories.Say You’ll Remember Me follows grumpy veterinarian Xavier Rush and marketing wizard/kitten savior Samantha Andrews. Sparks fly when they meet, but Samantha faces a one-way ticket across the country to help her family. As they navigate family drama and long-distance challenges, they must decide if their love is worth the hardships that come with it.This was my second read by Abby Jimenez, and I truly cannot wait to read more. This book was a deeply emotional experience, evoking both joy and sadness. It particularly resonated with me because I’ve watched a loved one struggle with dementia and memory loss. Jimenez does a beautiful job of portraying the pain of seeing someone you love become like a stranger and exploring difficult shifts in roles such as child to caregiver. I connected strongly with Samantha’s family situation, and I loved how resilient and bright she was. Xavier was the perfect counterpart — warm, compassionate, and steady, giving Samantha someone to rely on.Even with the insta-love trope, the romance felt layered and realistic, with plenty of plot to keep it engaging. The long-distance element added a yearning tension that I adore in romance reads. Plus, the lovable companions — Jake from State Farm and Pooter — added charm and humor throughout.I would recommend this book for fans of romance, anyone who enjoys insta-love or slow-burn yearning, readers who love animal sidekicks, and those who appreciate stories tackling real-life challenges alongside romance
Good read. It was a bit slow, but the story between them was sweet and showed some of the struggles they had in their lives. How they went through the relationship from a distance , his vet practice, her family etc.
10/10 audiobook narratorssome bits were a little cringey (hello too many rhysand references) but it also made me cry so
4.5⭐️This book was an emotional one for me as I've dealt with dementia with my dad. The story was perfect and had me smile, laugh and cry. This book is prefect if you want a light hearted romance.
(4.5⭐). The negative reviews I've read about this book can be summed up as "It's too much bad stuff happening to these people" or "This was a boring book". I can agree with both of these statements. I did, however, enjoy every moment of it. And I read it in one sitting. I deeply related to Xavier and his childhood trauma, I love their love story and how they never wavered in their commitment to each other. I love the perfectly imperfection of Samantha's family. It didn't feel completely like a 5⭐, but I loved it nonetheless.
I had a lot of expectations with this book because it's so populair on booktok and booktube, but none of them where met. People said it was super sad and I'm not denying that what happens wasn't sad it was just the way it was somehow it didn't feel extremely sad to me. Another thing is that the book felt unrealistic to me. One moment the family is fighting the next everything is good and they are working together happily.
2.5⭐This book was so disappointing. I actively disliked this book. From the title to the jokes, everything felt forced. It feels like low effort writing to be honest. After reading the book, it feels like so many elements were trying to entice readers to pick it up. The title, is a (perhaps unintentional) allusion to Taylor Swift. We've seen this pop up more and more in newer books. Authors mention Taylor Swift so they can hopefully grab some of her fanbase to read their book. It felt the same way with mentioning Rhysand or elements of ACOTAR in the first few chapters. If mentioning other works or pop culture moments is organic to the story or plot, it can work. In this case, it feels like a name drop. The same can be said for Samantha's job. It's obviously a nod to the notorious Wendy's twitter account. In addition, the jokes are outdated. "Jake... from state farm," would have been funny (maybe) in the 2010s. All of the "marketing" for Murkle's Mustard was just objectively not funny. And for how much it was brought up, it should have been funnier. If I'm being honest, I did not like Samantha from... not the jump... but pretty close. I will die on the hill that she should have been up front about moving. Maybe they still would have gone out on the date. But Xavier deserved to know. I know the author worked with someone who specialized in memory care. But I did not appreciate how Samantha spoke about her mom at times. There was one moment where the family is laughing and she states "Mom was laughing too now, but only because we were." There were various moments like this throughout the book and it felt disrespectful to her mother and anyone dealing with memory loss. As if they are just braindead being couldn't possibly have a small moment of joy. This undertone that I felt throughout the book nearly made me DNF.Overall, I just feel, in comparison to her previous novels, this was poorly executed.
I was worried when I saw that one of the tropes was insta-love, but oh my god, THIS is how it should be done.
