Sometimes I could get really annoyed with some of the characters, but that's because I cared about the main character. The ending of this book was crazy. Suddenly everything changed and went to shit. I liked the slow building romance that was going on. I can't wait for book two.

Came for the Monsters, Stayed for the Slow BurnShield of Sparrows is a slow burn romantasy that completely pulled me in. I loved watching Odessa grow from an underestimated princess into someone who starts questioning the rules forced on her, and the world around her. The enemies-to-lovers tension is chef’s kiss, especially with a gruff, guarded Guardian who brings plenty of sparks.The story is atmospheric, highstakes, and full of looming danger without rushing the romance, which made the payoff feel earned. If you enjoy cursed realms, reluctant alliances, sharp banter, and a heroine discovering her own strength, this one is definitely worth picking up.Would happily continue this series!
It was a masterpiece, that last 10% ? almost gave me a heart attack and don't get me started about that cliffhanger at the end, I want book 2 immediately.
For my first Deveney Perry novel this was good but I still would have to try her other books to see if I only like her fantasy or also her other stuff.
𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 entertained me from start to end. It was everything I love about the romantasy genre: epic adventure, ample yearning and pining, mythical creatures, and a strong FMC. I connected with the characters easily -- they made me clap, cheer, and fall straight in love. This is the first Devney Perry book I've read, and I am excited to try some of her other novels. While I really enjoyed Shield of Sparrows, I am not certain I will continue the series. I didn't finish the book with an overwhelming need to know what will happen next. In all honesty, it will probably just depend on my mood when the next book is released.
I enjoyed the darker elements of this story and the monsters. Even the MMC was pretty good. A liar, but understandable for the circumstances. He didnt really come off as a mysoginist or complete evil asshole, which was a nice change of pace. But I felt the beginning dragged on too long to try to hint at a twist that was pretty obvious from early on.
