View AllThis is the book that made me realize how much I love clones in Sci-fi, and its exploration of cloning ethics is impeccable.I will say it has a horribly ableist trope, and while I understand why elements of it were necessary due to the aforementioned cloning ethics, it absolutely could have been handled in a way that didn't demonize an already stigmatized disorder. Light spoilers to contextualize: <spoiler>It uses the "character has Dissociative Identity Disorder, and one of their other identities is evil and violent" trope. While in the context of the book, it is that this other personality has somewhat been transplanted into a character's body, it still absolutely is using this deeply harmful trope.</spoiler> Heavier spoilers: <spoiler>I wish that instead, someone else was the killer, and Hiro's storyline more so dealt with the trauma of legally enforced DID and let his alters have actual personalities rather than just being reduced to a single trait.</spoiler>
