Description

Chelsea Knot has always known that gossip is her Achilles’ heel. Growing up, she’d always turned to rumors to fit in, but after a life-altering incident, she finds herself reevaluating the power of words. In an attempt to break free from the toxic cycle of chatter and drama, she decides to stop talking altogether, hoping silence will shield her from the harsh realities of high school life.

Along the way, Chelsea discovers more than just the benefits of silence; she begins to understand herself and the relationships surrounding her. It's a challenging journey filled with ups and downs, peeling back layers of insecurity and bravely confronting the consequences of her past actions. As she learns to navigate her new reality, the friendships she forms become her anchor, showing her that connections can be deeper than words.

Through a vibrant mix of humor and emotional depth, Chelsea’s story captures the struggles of adolescence and self-discovery, reminding readers that sometimes, the loudest voice can be found in stillness. As she learns to express herself without the crutch of gossip, she ultimately finds her own strength and resilience in a world that often feels overwhelmingly noisy.

I just re-read this for the 3rd time, and it's still one of my favourite contemporary books. I thought the story and characters were very well developed and the different reactions to Chelsea's vow were realistic. I loved how she grew and learned and became friends with Sam and Asha. What drew me in at the start was the cover. I love how it was so plain and simple but very powerful all the same.
