This was on the booktok table at indigo, but I've never seen this on booktok before in my life. The cover is STUNNING. The sprayed edges are STUNNING. The shimmering black and gold makes this one of the prettiest books I own. I picked it up because the description sounded like a fun time and because I miss going into books not knowing anything about them or having seen any reviews. Unfortunately, right from the beginning I had to adjust my expectations. The writing style feels like it was written by a 13 year old. It's so cheesy and simple. The dialogue is unnatural, and the characters, though in their 20s, talk like they are children. But then there is a bit of mature content that makes this firmly an adult book. It's really strange. My 2 stars are very generous and only because the story itself was kind of interesting. I just really hate the writing. The story would be fantastic if the style could be elevated and more mature. The characters need depth and to be able to interact genuinely with each other. There needs to be some kind of world building. The ending feels like we read 75 percent of the book.
