Study Guide: The Fury

I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Alex Michaelides so far and I love how he gives a nod to characters from other books. I love how masterfully he unfolds his plots and how there’s always a psychological element to his stories. This one was a slower pace for a thriller and while I definitely didn’t guess everything, there wasn’t anything that completely shocked me either. However, I still loved every moment of how it all played out and I really enjoyed the style of writing- it truly was like a conversation with a friend as the narrator states in the book. This book isn’t taking top place of The Silent Patient, but it was a fun murder mystery read and continues to solidify Alex Michaelides as an auto-read author for me.

Couldn’t get into this one. First ever DNF.

I really wanted to like this book, I desperately did. I love Alex Michaelides writing, and that as well as how much i loved Kate and Lana is what got me to actually finish this book but the problem was that i couldn't stand Elliot Chase as a narrator. Through his dodging of what led his former "partner" (gagging because its discovered that he was sleeping with her) falling which led to a large plot hole never filled. As well as the blatant copying of Agatha Christie's style, i just couldnt get into his narrating. The other issue was that Elliot jumped between times in the book between talking about his childhood, before going to the island and while at the island and its really hard to figure out whats going on because of it.
