Description

In a sharp and engaging narrative, readers are introduced to Emira Tucker, a young African American woman navigating the complexities of her life while working as a babysitter for a privileged white family. One night, in an unexpected turn, she is confronted at a local supermarket when a security guard accuses her of kidnapping the child she is watching. This dramatic event sends shockwaves through her world, prompting her to reassess her relationships and the inherent racial dynamics at play.

As Emira grapples with the aftermath of that night, she finds herself entangled in the lives of her employer and their well-intentioned but misguided attempts at allyship. The story explores themes of privilege, identity, and the often uncomfortable conversations surrounding race in contemporary society. With wit and insight, the novel challenges readers to reflect on the moral intricacies of modern relationships and the societal structures that shape them.

If you’ve seen my journey through this book you’re probably thinking this girl has problems cause I’ve been complaining all the way but honestly I think that’s the point of the book. I think it was written in a way that would provoke anger and I really appreciate it. This book was so good.
