Description

Set against the backdrop of modern-day America, the novel delves into the complexities of race, privilege, and social dynamics through the life of Emira Tucker, a vibrant young African American woman. Emira works as a babysitter for a white family, and one night, she is confronted by security at a local supermarket while babysitting their child. This incident sparks a series of events that highlight the racial tensions and misunderstandings that often simmer beneath the surface of seemingly mundane interactions.

As Emira navigates her personal and professional life, she grapples with her identity and the expectations placed upon her. The story thoughtfully examines themes of friendship, accountability, and the inherent biases that can shape relationships. Reid masterfully blends humor with poignant social commentary, creating a narrative that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, ultimately prompting readers to reflect on their own beliefs and behaviors in society.

If you’ve seen my journey through this book you’re probably thinking this girl has problems cause I’ve been complaining all the way but honestly I think that’s the point of the book. I think it was written in a way that would provoke anger and I really appreciate it. This book was so good.
