Reviews

I was super excited for this book after reading Half a Soul. The premise sounded great.I enjoyed reading this a lot. It is a high 4 star.Just didn't quite have the 5 star feel and experience I got from book 1.I loved Lord Blackthorn a lot as well as his home. This book did feel more like a romance than I wanted but I should of seen that coming. Also the romance at the end felt a little rushed for my liking. But I like the Epilogue. Will definitely be reading book 3 when I get it.

This is a Cinderella-inspired story about a maid who believes she’s in love with a Lord, so she strikes a deal with a faerie to help win his heart. But as she spends more time with the faerie, unexpected feelings develop between them instead. At first, I didn’t think I’d enjoy this as much as the first book, and I almost put it down because it felt like it was moving too slowly. But once I got into it, I found it to be one of the sweetest books I’ve ever read.I absolutely love a sunshine-y male protagonist, and this book gave me exactly that. Lord Blackthorn is kind and, most importantly, genuinely interested in the little things that make Effie happy. Although she is 'just a maid' and doesn't think much of herself, he speaks very highly of her and makes her feel good about herself and this is one of the things I love so much about Lord Blackthorn. Effie is strong, kind, and I really enjoyed seeing her grow in confidence and learn to stand up for herself throughout the story. The moments between Effie and Lord Blackthorn, where their friendship slowly blossoms into something more, were just beautiful. My only issue with the book is that their developing relationship wasn’t explored as much as I’d have liked, but overall, this was such a fun and heartwarming read.

I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. It was a nice experience and the writing is so whimsical and flowery, I just didn't get to care enough about any of the characters, anything that was happening to them and any relationship in the book. I did love the social commentary and what the book was trying to say and do.Also *this is totally my fault and cannot be blamed on the book*, in my head, I pictured Lord Blackthorn as an old gentleman for 50% of the book. So, imagine my confusion when he became the love interest. 😂
