Description
Published in 1945, THE EGG AND I took first America, and then the world, by storm. From 1927 to 1931, the newlywed Betty did her best to help her first husband run a chicken farm in then remote Chimacum (on the Olympic Peninsula) in Washington state.
The Egg and I was enormously successful, selling 1,000,000 in it's first ten months. It has been adapted for stage, radio and screen; the movie version starred Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray and also introduced Ma and Pa Kettle, the eccentric country bumpkins portrayed by the inimitable Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride. Betty MacDonald wrote three other memoirs, as well as the still popular Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series for children, and is recognized by many as an important America humorist.
The audio edition, read by award winning narrator Heather Henderson, was nominated for a Voice Arts Awards (2015).
