The Empty Sleeve

A weird prophecy forecasts that Peter Gannet will see ghosts and have communication with the Devil. And so he does, in a locksmith's shop in Covent Garden, where he meets with a phantom stinking of fish, that beckons to him with an empty sleeve. Is it the ghost of the last apprentice, and if so what does it want with him? Leon Garfield has also written "The December Rose", "The Ghost Downstairs", "Guilt and Gingerbread" and "Mister Corbett's Ghost". Four of his stories "Devil-in-the-Fog", "John Diamond", "Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris" and "Smith" have been shown on TV, while "Black Jack" was made into a film by Ken Loach.
