The First Hit: An Ian Bragg Short Story

They say the first is the hardest. It wasn’t.

They were shooting at my squad. It seemed only natural that we shoot back, or we’d get ripped a new one by the platoon sergeant. Fear was a motivator, but not the fear of getting killed.
We were young and invincible.
That was a long time ago. A different life, and I was a different person.
My name is Ian Bragg now, and I’m an operator.
I kill people for money. Not a lot of people and only the bad ones.
I can live with that.
This is the story of my first hit. Being an operator doesn’t come naturally. Killing people is easy but getting away to do it again?
That’s the hard part.
