The first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy surprised me a lot and has already become one of the best reads of 2024. Although I had this book on my TBR for some time and already knew it because of the series and the film - although I haven't watched any of both - I fell into this story without having any idea of how complex and sensational it could be. The book addresses questions about physics and religion in an ingenious way that is impossible not to enchant the reader. I was really surprised that the book was considered YA because I found it a little complex for the target audience, but it cannot be denied that the author knew how to convey these concepts clearly. I really loved the characters, Lyra is very captivating and the supporting characters were also great, not to mention the villains. The plot is very engaging and has shocking twists, but it also created even more questions to be answered in the next books. I read this book in the audiobook version and it was a great narration, very fluid. I believe it is also very quick and captivating to read in any format. There are many expectations for the next books and I think this trilogy deserves much more recognition than it already has.
One of my all time favourite books. Up there with the others in the series, and just as amazing as 'The Thief Lord', another of my favorites.
