As someone who watch the movie first. It was not what I was expecting. Although I will say I really did enjoy reading the book and it was a very much different take on all the characters. Also did find myself having a hard time sometimes remembering which character is which.
I could believe how fast I fell into this book. It's been so long since I've been able to do that. And I only picked this book up no more than 10 times. I would read huge chunks of it because it was so intriguing. I would recommend this book to anyone. It was wonderful. The writing was smooth and the author introduced mysteries that kept the reader intrigued. The plot had several intertwining stories, expected because it is told from three separate views. I watched the movie, which surprisingly didn't completely ruin the book. Be warned though, some parts are missing or changed slightly so that the viewer can get as much of the story as possible without making it 4 hours long.
Wow! I had seen the movie before reading this book and it only gave away two suspenseful parts. But honestly, this book is a masterpiece. I feel the movie did it justice but the book is still worth the read. So much character development, so much emotion, and just phenomenal writing. On the cover it says you will be cheering out loud and I sure was! There is so much to get out of this book that wasn't in the movie but I would recommend reading it first. The book is always better :)
This was a novel that made me cry, laugh and angry all within a few pages! Such an inspirational novel. At first I was unsure about the story however the further I got into the book the less I could put it down. A classic in the making for sure!
A wonderful point of view from a time of great growth in our country. This book shows how even in the midst of prejudice, not everyone shares the same views. Wonderful story about the patterns that carry on from one generation to the next, and how one pivotal action can change everyones view point in an instant.
