When Princess Amethyst Alexandra Augusta Araminta Adelaide Aurelia Anne is born in the kingdom of Phantasmagoria, excitement is high: for everyone knows the seventh daughter of a king is the most beautiful and gifted of all. A splendid christening is arranged, and all the fairy godmothers are invited to present their gifts. Everything seems to be going smoothly until the fairy Crustacea arrives, with an unusual and not altogether welcome gift: a spell that the princess should be ordinary!

As she grows up, Amy doesn't mind, but when the King and Queen plan to marry her off to a dreary prince, she decides to take matters into her own hands...
