Description
As Violet attempts to forge connections with her students, she uncovers hidden layers of her own vulnerability. The clash between her idealistic vision of education and the harsh realities of privilege and power creates a compelling contrast. Each lesson she imparts becomes a journey of self-discovery, even as old demons lurk in the shadows, ready to confront her.
Wynn crafts a story that delves into the intricacies of identity, belonging, and redemption. Through Violet's experiences, the narrative explores themes of resilience and the longing for acceptance, all set against the backdrop of an institution where expectations run high and secrets lie just beneath the surface. The unfolding drama reveals not only the struggle for personal salvation but also the transformative power of education itself.

I loved the setup at the beginning and how things are revealed over time. I could not guess what was happening ahead of time and I LOVED that in a mystery! The mystery was very front and center in this book, but it didn't take away from the romance. There were definitely clues along the way, but I wasn't able to narrow my suspect pool down enough before the reveal. ๐ I loved the way the mystery was built and how the impact of the disappearance was looped into the stories of the main characters. The romance was so cozy (and also a bit spicy! ๐ถ๏ธ๐ถ๏ธ), The backgrounds that Chance and Violet came from dictated how they approach relationships and I like how that shone through, but also how they adapted to come together to grow their relationship. I do like an academia that is *heavily* focused on the classes and content, but this was more about their positions in the school as teacher and around the mystery component, so I didn't get as much from that aspect, but I definitely understand why and how the setting played into the rest of the book and it shouldn't be done any other way. ๐If you're looking for a cozy fall read (to follow up with the Holiday book that comes next in the series!), a mystery that isn't super scary, or whodunits with that fall, back to school feel, you may like this book.
