The Play's the Thing

Bandicoot Ridge, a remote hamlet in the high country of eastern Australia, is catapulted into the public eye by rumours of a terrorist training camp being established in its midst. Lana Graham, the brilliant young lawyer fighting to hold on as the local Member of Parliament in the looming election, struggles to control the forces bearing down on the town in the wake of the rumours. With her inconstant lover Professor Martin Mooney at her side, Lana faces the prospect of holding the balance of power in the new Parliament; but can she handle the players muscling in on the town, including a clapped-out shock jock, an enigmatic Middle Eastern businessman and Agnes Flint, the billionaire boss of Flint Global? As the knife-edge election approaches, the action centres on Bandicoot Ridge's struggling community theatre, where bitter conflicts are played out on stage and off stage, and the motivations of the dramatis personae are laid bare. The Play's the Thing is a satirical and quirky tale about the triumph of love, loyalty and tolerance over treachery, prejudice and the might of the dollar.
