⭐️2.25-2.5An adequate addition to the series, providing a glimpse into King Clarkson and Queen Amberly's youthful selves. In spite of this, I don’t feel this novella changed my opinions of Clarkson or Amberly, nor did it give them greater depth as characters. I mean, if one of the goals of this novella was to humanise Clarkson, then I don’t think it achieved that entirely, as I was never able to warm up to him.Although I liked Amberly's character, I felt she was weakly written, as she was stripped of all personality and depth, and her only purpose in life was to be Clarkson's wife, since she has been fantasising about marrying him her entire life. I wish there was more about her as a character, especially since she was one of the few characters I wanted to know more about after reading 'The Selection' and 'The Elite'.Finally, to me, the "love story" between Clarkson and Amberly wasn’t romantic at all. The reasoning behind why he chose her to be his wife was simply not it and wasn’t cute.Overall, definitely not my favourite novella in the series.
