Set against a backdrop of tumultuous waters and fierce traditions, this gripping tale follows the lives of those who risk everything to participate in the races. Each November, competitors confront not only the challenges of riding the legendary, bloodthirsty water horses but also their own fears and desires that emerge in the heat of competition.

The story centers on two young characters, each grappling with their own motives and dreams. As they navigate the perilous world of racing, they form an unexpected bond that forces them to confront deeper truths about loyalty, love, and the sacrifices one must make in pursuit of one's passions. The atmospheric setting adds a layer of intensity, where the island's mythical elements entwine seamlessly with the human experience.

As the races unfold, tensions rise and the line between victory and defeat blurs. The stakes are high, with both personal ambitions and the island’s traditions hanging in the balance. Readers will find themselves captivated by the intricate dance of danger, hope, and resilience as the characters strive to emerge from the tumult victorious, even as they learn the true meaning of what it means to triumph.

I was thoroughly impressed with this story of Puck (Kate) Connoly who lost both of her parents to water horses and the accompanying story of Sean Kendrick. "The Scorpio Races" was fabulously written and captivated me from the moment I started reading. A big HURRAH to you, Maggie Stiefvater for writing such a wonderful, inspiring novel.
