Set in the vibrant landscape of early 20th-century Amsterdam, a whimsical tale unfolds around a group of well-intentioned yet aimlessly drifting young men. They grapple with life’s expectations, each teetering between aspirations and inaction. Nescio’s exploration brilliantly captures their charming absurdity, painting a relatable portrait of youth burdened by ambition but lacking direction.

Joost Swarte’s illustrations enhance the narrative, breathing life into moments of introspection and camaraderie. With a blend of lighthearted humor and poignant reflection, this novella invites readers to reminisce about their own formative years, questioning what it truly means to seize the day amidst the allure of dreams unfulfilled.
