Description

In a kingdom where dance is forbidden, a future high priestess must bend the rules to stop an ancient evil from destroying everything and everyone she loves, including the crown prince, in this sweeping romantasy graphic novel.

Eighteen-year-old Myra has spent her entire life training to replace her grandmother as High Priestess. But with the day of her ascension rapidly approaching, she’s not sure if she’s meant for this path. How can she become the herald of the god Alrun when he forbids the thing she loves most: dancing?

Her kingdom can’t afford her hesitation though. Not only is the emperor looking for Alrun’s wisdom ahead of a peace treaty, but forces of darkness are seeping through the barrier between worlds. The only source of light Myra has is her childhood best friend, the crown prince. Without his support and…love, she may not be able to stop what’s coming.

To save her people, Myra must delve into her kingdom’s forgotten history, even if it means defying the laws of the land. But the key to salvation may just require her to make the biggest sacrifice of all.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an early look.I really wanted to like this book. The plot and characters and story are great but unfortunately the illustration style is really not for me. There is a weird inconsistentancy in certain panels and if I am being honest many panels look like awkward and bad screenshots from an animation. I understand that the illustrator has worked in animation as well but animation style just doesn't translate well in a static book.

The artwork is very stunning to look at and the characters are enjoyable. Some of the main character's decisions make you side eye but they are both 18 so take it with some grace. The only thing is the story and pacing felt rushed while everything wrapped up in a nice bow. It felt like certain things could have been explained better and the translation from certain scenes felt a little choppy. I would say the stakes are low even though it could have been higher with certain impaction but everything gets solved quickly. There is a little world building to help set the story up, nothing really complicated since it does feel like a fairy tale or a folktale. The romance was lovely if you love Friends to Lovers with a small pinch of duty over love conflict. So if you want a quick story to read with stunning artwork, romance, low stakes, low on the worldbuilding this is right up your alley.
