Description

Jules Verne died at his home in Amiens on March 24, 1905; he was nearly 78 years old. Nearly sixty science-fiction titles had come from his pen during his long and busy life. Not all of these titles were well-known or memorable, of course, but half a dozen of them will be in print as long as there is print for books to be in. Chief among these, in the opinion of most people, will forever be Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea....

FLETCHER PRATT'S spirited and knowledgeable introduction to our edition.... was the last thing he ever wrote. Less than a month after its receipt in the office of The Heritage Club, he died at the age of 59. He was in the best tradition of the freelance writer--capable, conscientious, a stickler for accuracy, and master of a vigorous and readable style. He confined himself largely to two specialties, military history and science fiction....

You HAVE heard us sing paeans to Edward A. Wilson many times before, and you are now going to hear us sing paeans to him once again.... "As an illustrator, you get better as you get older. This set of pictures is done with great sensitivity as far as Jules Verne is concerned, and with great clarity so far as the prospective purchaser is concerned. They are really quite wonderful, just as good a set of pictures as you have ever done."

The book has been designed and the text set by Saul and Lillian Marks at their Plantin Press in Los Angeles. The type is Monotype Fournier. The paper is Ticonderoga text, specially made for this edition by the International Paper Company. The page size is 7 x 10 3/8 inches. The binding is paper-covered boards with cloth backstrip.

With all this sea talk I feel like I鈥檓 a seaologist! 馃槀Honestly I don鈥檛 know how to feel about it. It鈥檚 definitely not my favorite genre I only bought the book because it looked nice 馃槄I鈥檓 kind of conflicted. I know it鈥檚 a classic but I didn鈥檛 really enjoy it that much. Would I recommend it to someone? NoHowever while listening to the ending I weirdly felt sad. Sad for Captain Nemo. And M. Aronnax鈥檚 last words about him are filled with so much feeling for this man we鈥檒l never truly know anything about.
