Description

In Uncommon Sense – A View from the Middle, Roberts argues that the ideology driven political divide gripping the country, the dramatically increased influence of the corporate world in Congress, the concentration of wealth in the hands of an ever smaller percentage of our citizens and the concurrent disappearance of the middle class are threatening national stability. In this thoughtful book, he offers specific common sense, pragmatic suggestions for resolving these and other related key issues facing the country. In the first section, he discusses the interdependence of Government, society and business, the questionable independence of Congress, and the role of government. In the second section, he discusses such specific issues as taxes, the stranglehold credit card banks have on their cardholders (American's new indentured servants), the war on drugs, energy, the divisiveness of political ideologies, the cost of prescription drugs, the politics of climate change, public education, the role of religion in politics, firearms in the United States and how Congress might legislate more effectively. In the final chapter, he addresses the questions of Congress as a career and the role of the news media, offers some final thoughts related to income taxes, and posits that our country has come to a crossroad, asking what we will become in this, the 21st century.
