Description

In a world where extraordinary abilities are born from near-death experiences, Victor and Eli forged a deep bond as college friends, unified by their shared ambition. What began as a thrilling pursuit of power quickly spiraled into a fierce rivalry fueled by jealousy and a hunger for recognition. As their paths diverge, so does the exploration of morality and the consequences of their choices, leading to an exhilarating clash.

Amidst the complex themes of ambition and desire, the narrative invites readers into a gritty, thought-provoking landscape where heroes and villains blur. Victor and Eli navigate their intertwined fates with intensity, each grappling with their own demons and the dark allure of their extraordinary gifts. Their tumultuous relationship serves as a backdrop for an exploration of friendship, betrayal, and the lengths one will go for greatness.

With Schwab's signature rich storytelling, the narrative pulls readers into a whirlwind of action and emotion. Each riveting twist keeps the stakes high, culminating in a battle where both characters confront not just each other, but themselves. Readers are left to ponder what it truly means to be extraordinary and the cost that comes with it.

I enjoyed this book so much. Maybe because I'm a sucker for super heros but this was unexpected. Such an incredible experience with very quick pacing

Another blind book. My 7 year old daughter actually picked this one for me, simply because the wrapper was her favorite color. I honestly wasn’t really looking forward to reading it. Even though I like sci-fi movies, it’s not typically what I’d choose to read. But I was so pleasantly surprised with this book! A different kind of hero/origin story.

Definitely different than her later books, but still enjoyable. I really enjoyed the ending. Quote:“Plenty of humans were monstrous, and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human.”
