Description

A phenomenal worldwide bestseller for over forty years, Richard Adams’ spellbinding classic Watership Down is one of the best-loved novels of all time. Set in the beautiful English countryside of the Berkshire Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage, and survival follows a band of very special rabbits fleeing the destruction of their home by a developer. Led by a stout-hearted pair of brothers, they leave the safety of Sandleford Warren in search of a safe haven and a mysterious promised land, skirting danger at every turn. A book that resonates as vividly today as it did nearly half a century ago, this keepsake Oneworld Classic edition showcases more than twenty sumptuous, evocative paintings from Aldo Galli, an illustrator chosen by Richard Adams himself.

This is my favorite book in the entire world.I don't think bookworms are supposed to be able to choose (whenever someone asks me they are genuinely shocked that I can pick a favorite), but this is mine. I love it. I have re-read it so many times I've lost count. I've owned countless copies. Having it read to me was a new experience, but the story is one I've experienced countless times.I'm not sure what else to say about something that has always touched me so deeply. Hazel and Fiver and Bigwig will always be characters that live in the back of my head, touchstones I compare other characters to as I continue my reading journey through life. The only thing I can really say is this: the first time I finished this book, I flipped it over and started it again. When the audio finished today, more than 20 years after the first time I read it, I considered doing the same.

I am not into animal movies or books but this is a really good book. Some people told me it is a really sad book but I disagree. None of the many characters died only the enemy died. But I guess that's what you expect from a children's book. For a 10-year-old the plot might be interesting but the description might be difficult to understand. Overall a great read just not my genre.
