Description

Lizzie navigates her life as a university librarian, a role that feels more like a detour from her aspirations to earn a doctorate. Each day, she is surrounded by books and knowledge, yet she wrestles with the weight of unfulfilled dreams and self-doubt. As she interacts with students and faculty, the longing for a deeper purpose grows, prompting moments of reflection and introspection.

Her world is further complicated by the challenges of balancing work with personal relationships, creating a rich tapestry of emotions. Lizzie finds herself at a crossroads, where the decision to pursue her academic goals clashes with the comfort and stability of her current position. In her quest for meaning, she grapples with the fear of failure and the daunting pursuit of ambition.

Through her journey, the complexities of ambition, identity, and the passage of time unfurl, painting a vivid picture of one woman's struggle to reconcile her desires with reality. Lizzie's story becomes a resonant exploration of the choices we make and the paths we leave behind.

I picked this up at random from my library's 'available now' audiobook collection not expecting anything but a brief occupation of my mind. Having finished, I now need to hunt down a physical copy and highlight everything. Reading this book was like trying to meditate as a beginner, where your mind floods with thoughts against your will, you get caught up and swirled away, and forget you were ever meditating to begin with.
