Description
Emotional abuse leaves a person feeling betrayed, disillusioned, alone, insecure, and unsafe in the world emotionally, physically and financially. The perpetrator’s tactics while stalking their victims are difficult to prove even though they usually increase over time. The tyrant’s dynamic charismatic style systematically destabilizes and confuses victims by disarming them using untraceable violence. These master manipulators use threats, coercion, bullying, and isolation as weapons in their efforts to destroy their victim’s identity and self-worth. Perpetrators of this common domestic crime never see their actions as wrong. Incapable of compassion and empathy, these insatiable narcissists constantly barrage their victims with blame and leave them fighting for their souls. As a victim, I became so ill, overburdened, and defenseless that I justified my acquiescence by labeling myself as the guilty one. Finally, when I cried out in frustration, I appeared to everyone as unstable or needlessly angry. When I confronted my past by writing my memoir, I looked at my troubles more objectively and actually found humor in otherwise desperate predicaments. Although there are many books listing ways to punish an offender or escape from abuse, real strength comes from building a defense through a strong faith. If you or someone you know finds yourself in an abusive situation in too deeply to get out and have no support from friends, family or clergy, it is time to heal yourself, put on the armor of God, and delve into a serious relationship with our Lord and Savior. Isaiah 30:21 NIV says, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it’.”
