Where Lovers Meet: Inside the Interior Castle

Susan Muto enables the reader to appreciate the universe of Saint Teresa housed in the dwelling places of her classic work, The Interior Castle. Dr. Muto also deftly introduces us to what is at stake if one is to find success in the search for approaching God with sure step. The author uses her long-standing appreciation of psychology and spiritual theology to impart wise counsels about how to progress along the path traced by the mystical Madre of Carmel. In lightning fashion Saint Teresa wrote her unforgettable work The Interior Castle in 1577. Her translator, Fr. Kieran Kavanaugh, assures us of the speed of her inspiration by asserting that the actual time spent on this spiritual masterpiece was a mere two months. Already a mature person, a vowed religious nun, and founder of reformed monasteries throughout Spain she gave to posterity in this seven-part treatise a classic of spiritual literature. Her wonderfully imaged text sets out an itinerary for the journey the soul must take to discover all that God has made inherent in every fulfilling quest after divine union.
