ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Daniel G. Payne is Professor of English at the State University of New York, Oneonta. His primary research and teaching interest is nature writing and environmental literature. He has published numerous articles and reviews in the field, as well as the book VOICES IN THE WILDERNESS: AMERICAN NATURE WRITING AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICS (University Press of New England, 1996). He has also edited two books with an environmental theme, THE PALGRAVE ENVIRONMENTAL READER and WRITING THE LAND: JOHN BURROUGHS AND HIS LEGACY. Dr. Payne coordinates SUNY Oneonta's biennial conference on nature and environmental writing, an international gathering of eminent scholars. His biography of nature writer Henry Beston (David R. Godine, Publisher) is scheduled to come out in the fall of 2014.
