Description

At the isolated Raxter School for Girls, life has been anything but ordinary for the last eighteen months. A mysterious contagion known only as the Tox has taken hold, reshaping the lives and bodies of the girls who remain. They navigate a world filled with fear and uncertainty, grappling not just with the physical effects, but with the psychological toll of isolation in a once-thriving school.

The bond between the girls is tested as they hold onto hope amidst creeping dread. Their friendships run deep, forged through shared struggles and secrets. Yet, as changes loom on the horizon and dark truths begin to surface, each girl must confront her own fears and the unsettling forms of their metamorphosis.

Powerfully woven and hauntingly beautiful, this narrative captures the blend of survival and sisterhood, where every choice counts, and the fight against an unseen enemy tests their limits. In a realm where deeper bonds can either save or shatter them, these girls must navigate the wild ride of resilience.

Spoiler3.5 stars - not quite a 4, but 3 feels harsh. At first, I really enjoyed the story and characters. You're thrown into a tense situation, it's been over a year since the island has been quarantined and the students and teachers have had to create a "new normal". Their bodies have changed in unimaginable ways, they've lost friends and struggle to survive. The first half is great, but the second half feels rushed and unfinished. There are loose ends with no explanation, which is odd given the main characters are searching for the truth. The story becomes about the journey and experiences, which isn't "enough". It's a book that leaves you wanting much more.
