⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5/5)“I will not let you go,” he husked. And part of me knew he meant something different by those words. They were a confession rather than a statement. A warning.Wolf Caged is a romantasy packed with some of my favorite tropes—shifters, enemies to lovers, and a deliciously slow-burn romance. The premise hooked me immediately, making this one of my most anticipated reads, and while there was a lot I enjoyed, a few aspects ultimately held it back for me.The slow-burn romance was by far my favorite part of the book. The tension between the main characters was incredibly well done, and the pacing made every small romantic moment feel earned and satisfying. I also really enjoyed the fae and shifter dynamics, the overall worldbuilding, and the relationships between the characters. It was an easy book to get lost in, and I found it engaging to read chapters here and there. That said, there were a few things that didn’t quite work for me. At times, the main characters lacked the emotional depth and connection I was hoping for. Saphira’s reactions and decisions were occasionally frustrating and came across as immature, making it difficult for me to fully connect with her. While I appreciated the romance pacing, the overall plot felt uneven. Much of the novel focused on character development, but comparatively little happened to move the story forward. By the final stretch, I found myself losing momentum, and when I reached the epilogue, it felt as though we’d barely progressed despite the book being nearly 600 pages long.Overall, I still think this is a romantasy worth checking out, especially if you love enemies to lovers, slow-burn romance, and shifter stories. Even though it wasn’t a perfect fit for me, I can absolutely see why so many readers are enjoying it, and I’m curious to see where the story goes next.Tropes: enemies to lovers, fated mates, shifters, fae, slow burn, possessive MMC & FMC, morally gray characters, political intrigue, betrayal.
