View AllCrank Palace might be a short novella, but it packs a punch. If you've read The Death Cure, you'll already know that Newts story is heartbreaking — and this book takes us on a journey through Newts spiral into madness. Watching him wrestle with The Flair, knowing what's coming, and still trying to find peace. Brutal. Beautiful. Bittersweet.
The success of Crank Palace boils down to Dashner giving Newt space to be more than "the glue" of the Gladers. We see his vulnerability, his anger, his ever dwindling momements of clarity.
It's not perfect — it's arguably too short, i wanted more time with Newt as well as some more depth from the side characters. However, it delivers where it matters and provides us one last hurrah with one of the best characters of this entire franchise and for that alone, I adore this little novella.
