Description

In a world where the supernatural and the mundane collide, David Aristarkhov emerges as a reluctant hero entwined with forces far beyond his comprehension. Once a promising psychic prodigy, David's life takes a dark turn as he grapples with the repercussions of his extraordinary abilities. Now, as a teenager, he finds himself caught in a web of intrigue, where demons lurk in the shadows, and the stakes are higher than he ever imagined.

Haunted by his past and the weight of expectations, David must navigate a treacherous landscape filled with otherworldly creatures and those who wish to exploit his powers for their own gain. As whispers of an impending darkness spread, he realizes that unlocking the secrets of his abilities may hold the key to saving not just himself, but the world around him.

With a blend of supernatural mystery and psychological depth, David's journey reveals the complexities of friendship, loyalty, and the battle between light and darkness. In a universe where every choice could lead to salvation or damnation, he must confront the true nature of his gift and redefine what it means to be a summoner.

Let’s say you’ve been completely entranced by S.T. Gibson’s writing and storytelling, and you’ll do almost anything to get your hands on a copy of her next book as early as possible. Hello, that person is me.After A Dowry of Blood, I just knew whatever Gibson was going to write next, would be my thing. With this, I wasn’t wrong.Evocation immediately draws you into the story, almost like you’re part of it. It’s atmospheric, unsettling, with plenty of content warnings, but at the same time, weirdly comforting. This is because the author is a master at making you fall in love with her characters. Honestly, it doesn’t take long for you to understand them, flaws and all. The magic system within this book was so interesting. I loved the slow reveal and build of it, and I’m pretty sure there’s plenty more to come and explore.I will say that while the book is a nice blend of occult magic and relationships, this tender balance does sway more to relationship-building at points. So much so that I forgot what the main plot was about - but only for a short while. If you’re looking for something occult, queer, romantic, yet spooky, add Evocation to your list (out May 2024)!Thank you Angry Robot Books for my advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review. For more reviews and book recommendations, check out my YouTube channel
