Description

In a world where death can be predicted, Mateo receives a fateful call just after midnight on September 5. His life, once filled with mundane routines and hopeful dreams, is irrevocably altered as he learns he has only twenty-four hours left to live. In a society grappling with the impending loss of so many lives in one day, the atmosphere is thick with urgency and uncertainty.

As Mateo navigates his last day, he seeks connection and understanding, yearning to leave behind a lasting impact before his time is up. Through chance encounters and unexpected alliances, he meets Rufus, a spirited individual who shares the same grim fate. Together, they explore what it means to truly live—embracing the small joys and poignant moments that make life worthwhile.

The ticking clock serves as both a haunting reminder and a powerful catalyst for change, propelling them into an emotional journey of self-discovery and profound friendship. As they confront their fears, regrets, and aspirations, the bond that forms is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Against a backdrop of impending loss, they learn to cherish every fleeting moment, using their last hours to carve out a legacy of love and courage. In this bittersweet narrative, the exploration of mortality becomes a celebration of life itself, leaving readers reflecting on the weight of their own choices and connections.

It was okay. But the there were scenes that actually made me sad

3.5 starsMaybe it's better to have gotten it right and been happy for one day instead of living a lifetime of wrongs. They both Die at the End is my very first Adam Silvera books and I really liked it. The concept was interesting. Essentially, it follows two boys Mateo and Rufus where they both find out that they're going to die on that day by Deathcast and so they join the Last friend App and eventually they find each other. The relationship between Mateo and Rufus was amazing, I loved it so much. I also love the diversity of these two characters. Mateo is gay and Rufus is bisexual and their character development is just so lovely, I love these two so much. The writing style was grippig and I loved how Silvera wrote in a way which portrayed so much emotion within the characters. The only aspect that bothered me was the insight of the side characters. The only made the the book a bit more slow-paced, I did like the POV's of the Pluto boys but the rest didn't do much for me. To be completely honest, I think I have a heart as cold as stone, but I didn't cry.... not one tear drop. Yes, it was heart-wrenching but there were no tears. The ending was so abrupt, but I do kind of know the idea of what the ending was going to be without it being fully told. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and everything about it was beautiful. I'm looking forward to reading more of Adam Silvera books.

Meus meninos Mateo e Rufus sempre estarão no meu coração. 🥺💙
