Description

In a world where magic is woven into the fabric of existence, a secret society emerges—the Alexandrian Society. This prestigious group guards the ancient wisdom of long-lost civilizations, bound to only a select few who possess extraordinary abilities. Those chosen face not merely the challenge of proving their worth but must also navigate intricate relationships steeped in rivalry, ambition, and the intoxicating allure of power.

Among the elite candidates are six ambitious individuals, each possessing a unique gift that sets them apart. As they delve deeper into arcane studies and the mysteries of the universe, they grapple with not just their personal ambitions but the weight of moral dilemmas that come with wielding great knowledge. Trust becomes a double-edged sword, where alliances shift like shadows and betrayal lurks at every turn.

The quest for enlightenment is fraught with danger; the stakes rise as secrets are unveiled, revealing that the line between teacher and student, friend and foe, is perilously thin. With destinies intertwined and suspense thickening, each character must confront their abilities and decide what they are willing to sacrifice for knowledge and power.

As the boundaries of friendship are tested and the very essence of loyalty is questioned, the journey into the heart of the Alexandrian Society leads to a thrilling climax. The exploration of profound themes such as sacrifice, moral ambiguity, and the pursuit of truth resonates deeply, leaving readers pondering the complexities of knowledge and the costs associated with its pursuit.

Audio book was fantastic. Do not recommend listening out loud for people to hear. Slight smutt advisory (miniscule and skip able)

This book had no business being almost 500 pages and still making me feel like I could read another 500 without blinking. That never happens for me. And the craziest part? I don’t even fully like these characters—and yet I’m completely obsessed with them.

They’re messy. Morally questionable. Half of them are manipulative, emotionally constipated, or just straight-up confusing. And somehow that’s exactly what makes them so compelling. The dynamics are so toxic, so co-dependent, so “are you okay??” that you can’t look away. Everyone is lowkey obsessed with each other in one way or another and I ate that up, no shame.

Libby and Nico? Yeah, that’s my agenda. Academic rivals with underlying care and tension? Say less. The “I know exactly what shape she takes up in the universe” line?? I needed to lie down. Meanwhile Parisa and Callum are walking red flags but in a “I need to study you under a microscope” way. Tristan is just there trying to survive the insanity, and Reina… I’m not even gonna lie, she faded into the background for me a bit.

Now let’s be real—the pacing is rough. This book drags for a long time before anything really kicks in. And the writing? Beautiful, but also confusing as hell at times. I had to reread more than a few passages because I genuinely had no idea what was going on. The flashbacks and vague descriptions didn’t help either.

BUT. Once it picks up? It picks up. The last part of the book actually had me locked in, and the setup for what’s coming next is insane. The whole elitism vs accessibility angle, the moral ambiguity, the way none of these people are actually “good”—it’s all so interesting.

End of the day: this book is messy, slow, confusing, and a little pretentious… but also addictive, smart, and weirdly fun. I didn’t fully understand it, but I felt it—and honestly, that was enough.
